MY PRIORITIES

Transforming Neighborhood Public Schools I am dedicated to revitalizing our local public schools into thriving community hubs. I would expand the Magnet Office to allow the creation of Magnet Centers that specialize in specific areas of study. To ensure LAUSD students’ success, I’ll work to fully staff our schools with teachers, counselors, psychiatric social workers, librarians, nurses, and paraprofessionals.

Securing Equitable, Sustainable Funding It’s time to rectify decades of underinvestment in our LAUSD public schools. I will advocate tirelessly to correct this disparity, ensuring students receive the resources they deserve.

Policy for Economic Development and Job Opportunities Policy to create Employment Development Centers in Community Schools to coach, teach, and inspire our parents, families, and students to enter the workforce of LAUSD.

Policy Student-to-Teacher Pipelines Employment Development Centers in Community Schools to create Student-to-Teacher Pipeline. These high school job placement centers for 16-18-year-olds to be trained, inspired, and developed to serve as teacher assistants and as in-person tutors under the current district-funded after-school tutoring program.  This center’s mission is to stimulate economic development for LAUSD  students along with supporting them to enter colleges that have  4-year BA and credential programs for future teachers.

Mental Health Support Policy to increase mental health resources in schools, including school psychologists, PS Workers, and counselors. Develop and implement policy to connect students identified with serious mental health conditions, e.g., Schizophrenia, a major depressive disorder, with LA County Mental Health for continuity of care upon leaving LAUSD. Mental Health services and care can help prevent our students and families from becoming homeless on the streets of Los Angeles.

Affordable Housing on District Owned Property Drawing from my experience as a councilman and involvement with the City of San Fernando Redevelopment Agency, whose objective was revitalizing blighted areas, I am well-prepared to take immediate action. The district possesses a substantial amount of land in the Los Angeles area. Envision working with a non-profit affordable housing agency to create mixed-use developments across district-owned properties, I propose a concept in which the ground floor accommodates stores and shops, and the second floor up would be multi-bedroom style apartments complemented by green spaces and tree canopies for outdoor activities. In addition, if the law allows, work with our State Legislature to establish financing programs that incentivize teaching and create a pathway to homeownership on district-owned properties.

Climate Justice and Green Our Schools I prioritize climate justice to green our campuses, including creating tree canopies on district campuses. We would collaborate with the City of Los Angeles Parks and Recreation, the Drought Response Outreach Program for Schools (DROPS), and Tree People to support this effort.
